What is the best way (cheapest way) to get to Downtown Chicago from Midway Airport late at night?
Flightscee.lynn asked:
I have a flight that gets into Midway at almost midnight and it seems like a cab is my only option. Does anyone know of any other options to get to my hotel? The hotel doesn’t have its own shuttle and it looks like the El doesn’t run that late… (is that right?)

But a female alone on the train that late is not a good idea in any city. Then I don’t know how far you’ll have to walk to your downtown hotel. Guest the orange line DOESN’T run after midnight.
Look to see if there are any cab shuttles. They will take like 6 people who are all staying in the downtown area for a flate-rate.

you could take a limo or a cab or you can wait a few hours until the orange line start
check at Metra.com and click orange line check for depatures from Midway/Cicero

spend the extra money and take a cab. It’s safe, and you’ll be so tired, who wants to wait for a train!!??

go to the rta website, it can tell you what time the last train on the orange line runs from the airport. if you need to get to downtown from midway, your other choice is the bus, you need to get to archer ave from the airport and take the 62 archer bus toward downtown, once you get on the bus, you can ask the driver for directions.

The cheapest way would be to walk.

You’re right, the Orange Line won’t be running after midnight, so when that happens to me I take the #62 Dearborn/Kinzie bus to downtown. It runs 24 hours a day, but will be on the owl schedule after midnight meaning it runs about every half hour.
I live really close to the Midway stop and being in the airport, it’s probably the most safe place to wait for a bus in the city, and truthfully you’re not going to go through any horrific neighborhoods…if you’re worried, just sit up front by the bus driver. You’re likely to be the only person on the bus anyhow.
Or take a cab…it’s $35 per person, don’t let the cab driver tell you it’s double because of how late it is. The info for cab fare is posted on the back seat, make sure you take a look at it.
Or take the Airport Express Shuttle: It runs 24/7, you don’t need reservations, and it’s about $15 cheaper than a cab:

The best way would be to take a cab. You get dropped off right at the door to your hotel. However, that’s gonna cost you about $35.
The cheapest way is to take the Orange Line train downtown. That will only cost you $2, however, you still have to get to your hotel from the train station, which means you’ll have to transfer to another train, or a bus, or both, to get to your hotel.
So if you aren’t familiar with the Chicago El system, and/or comfortable navigating around the city at night, take the cab.
