Is 1hr 25 min a long enough layover coming out of Chicago O’Hare when travelling to or from internationally?

My husband, baby boy and I will be travelling to Canada in August and I’m trying to make certain we leave enough time between flights to actually make the flights without running and being able to clear customs coming back. It’s been at least a decade since I last travelled through that airport.

I would say no, because if your flight is late, and it will probably will be, you will not make it in time. Mainly because you have to go to the international terminal, go through additonal security, and all that stuff. And, you bags will have a better chance of making it if the layover is longer.

It is probably very tight. US Customs tends to be very slow at times. Depends on the time of the day and how many people are in the line. Once when I came back from Dominican Republic, I had 2 hours to connect and almost missed by flight!

Coming in on an international flight, I would want more time to clear customs and get to the connecting flight. You’ll still have to go from the international arrivals terminal to another terminal and go through security again to get to your gate.
Making a connection in O’Hare on an outbound flight that should be okay as long as your flight to Chicago isn’t delayed.
